Speakeasy began in the Winter of 2012 when Mikey D and Sean Matthews started talking about having a dinner group based on an idea that theologian Peter Rollins had called the "Last Supper." Rollins basic idea was to invite guests who had strong religious or philosophical convictions to have dinner with a small group of open-eared people, hear what they had to say, and ask them whatever questions we could come up with. It was a way for us to continue asking questions about our Christian faith personally, reexamine our assumptions, and share a spiritual and intellectual journey with friends who were coming from a huge variety of perspectives on life. We called the group "Speakeasy" because it was a place where it was "easy" for honest and open dialogue could take place. We've been regularly meeting ever since then. Our group is supported by the Fusion Collective at UNH and meets every other Thursday night at 6:30.
